SWe had a great first three days of 2019! It was hard for everyone to get back in the groove, but I'm proud of everyone for working hard even when they didn't necessarily want too!
On Wednesday we reviewed our rituals and routines for reading and writing, while practicing our reading stamina. Both classes were able to read for 15 minutes! This is a GREAT start for the year, however, keep reading at home! Building stamina at home will help increase your stamina in the classroom!
We also created "Word Goals". Students chose a word that helps them focus ona part of their life that they want to improve or grow or do more of for the 2019. I am SO proud of the reflective choices students made. Some of our word goals include perserverance, kindness, focus, reading, and confidence. Stay tuned for pictures of the final product!
We ended the week diving into our next unit - Rocks & Minerals. Through the next few weeks we will be learning about rocks and minerals, as well as various strategies to help us read non-fiction texts. On Thursday students created a KWL Chart before reading about rocks and minerals. The KWL chart helps to get our brains 'sticky' before reading, so we pay more attention to what we read. It worked because we certainly learned a lot!! Check out the KWL charts we created here.
It was a busy few days which is just a glimpse of what the next few months will be like! Stay tuned for more fun!
Have a great weekend!
