Center 1: Word Work
At this center students practiced identifying topic sentences in paragraphs they were reading. We've learned that a topic sentence expresses the main idea of a paragraph and tomorrow we are going to practice writing our own topic sentence. This skill helps us as readers and writers. As readers it helps us know where to look to find the main idea of a text we are reading to help us better comprehend our books. As writers it helps us stay organized when writing about different topics.
Center 2: Free Write
During free write time students had the opportunity to practice their typing skills while being creative with their stories. They chose to either type a story their have already written in their Writer's Notebooks or come up with a new one. They had lots of fun being creative and are getting better at using two fingers on the keyboard.
Center 3: Vocabulary
Our last station students brought their sentences and vocabulary words to life by creating Vocabulary cartoons! Students chose one of our recent vocabulary words, then wrote a sentence and created a cartoon showing their sentence in action. Some of our favorite words to draw - grumble, assemble, privilege.
